SEI - Sustainable Energy Ireland
Who Are the SEI?
Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI), formerly the Irish Energy Centre was set up by the government in 2002 as Ireland’s national energy agency. Their mission is to promote and assist the development of sustainable energy in Ireland.
SEI - Mission Statement
Our mission is to promote and assist the development of sustainable energy in Ireland.
This includes implementing significant aspects of the Energy White Paper: “Delivering a Sustainable Energy Future for Ireland" and the National Climate Change Strategy (2007-2012) as provided for in the National Development Plan (2007-2013) such as:
- Improving energy efficiency
- Advancing development/competitive deployment of renewable sources of energy and combined heat & power
- Reduce the environmental impact of energy production/use, particularly greenhouse gas emissions
SEI is also responsible for:
- Advising Government on policies and measures on sustainable energy
- Implementing programmes agreed by Government
- Stimulating sustainable energy policies and actions by public bodies, businesses, local communities & individuals
SEI Programmes
Sustainable Energy Ireland manages programmes aimed at:
- Assisting deployment of superior energy technologies in each sector as required
- Raising awareness and providing information, advice and publicity on best practice
- Stimulating research, development and demonstration (RD&D)
- Stimulating preparation of necessary standards and codes
- Publishing statistics and projections on sustainable energy and achievement of targets
SEI Funding
Sustainable Energy Ireland is funded by the National Development Plan 2007-2013, with programmes part funded by the European Union.
