If you'd like to use your attic for living or storage space, then you could look at Insulating the Attic Roof instead. This is usually done by insulating between the roof rafters using rigid insulation boards.
Pitched Roof Insulation
KORE Lock Pitched Roof Insulation is fitted between the attic rafters along with a thermal dry lining slab placed over the attic rafter. By installing KORE Lock Pitched Roof Insulation, the average homeowner will reduce their yearly bills by as much as 10-20%. Excellent U-values can be achieved especially if the attic rafters are in excess of 100mm (4 inches). The unique cut of the KORE Lock sheet ensures that the product fits tightly between the attic rafters and will not sag with time.

Benefits of getting your Roof Insulated
The video shows the advantages of getting your roof insulated. At 10am on a frosty moring, you can clearly see the home on the left which has recently had their roof insulated, still has the frost on the majority of their roof. While on the adjoining house's roof, the frost is gone. This basically means that in the house on the right, the heat is escaping directly through their roof, wasting money in these increasingly recessionary times.
Roof Insulation - Home Owner Testimonial
BF writes; Recently I had my roof insulated by insulateyourhome.ie. The main reason for getting the roof insulated was to create extra storage space in my home. The attic was freezing up now and so items that were stored up there were being exposed to cold and damp. The idea was by getting the roof insulated that it would create better conditions for storage by taking some of the cold out of the attic and reducing, if not, eleiminating the dampness. Also a concern of mine was to keep some of the heat that rises ifrom the house in the attic to help protect the plumbing in the attic during times of harsh weather. Last year during the cold snap, we narrowly avoided a mini disaster when the pipes froze in the attic. After that I decided to lag all my pipes in the attc and also the water tank. The final peice of the jigsaw was to insulate the roof.
After a few days I ventured up into the attic to see what the conditions were like. As can be seen from the video above, it was freezing outside. The attic was noticably warmer. While it was not exactly live-able, there was a definite big improvement and also you could not feel the damp in the air.
I did notice two things however that I hadn't really considered;
(1) The house itself was warmer. On that day of the video (which was very cold), I had the heating on for 1/2 hour around 10pm the night before. I got up the next moring around 7am and the house was still nice and warm. But what I really did not expect was that after going out on a job that moring and arriving back a lunch time, I opened the front door and there was a blast of warm air that hit me. I couldn't believe it. The heating was not turned on that morning and had not been on since 10pm the night before.
(2) As the video above shows in real terms, the frost was still on my roof at 10am, while the neighbours house was bare. The roof insulation in my home was keeping the heat in and not letting it escape through the roof. It's kind of hard to descibe that the heat was still in my house at lunch time but I think that the video shows clearly the benefits of getting roof insulation installed.
